When it comes to Christmas gifts, there’s nothing wrong with thinking big. This year I’m casting a wide net, even geographically speaking, with everything from the silver jewellery from France’s Le Gramme and the handmade sunglasses from Japan’s Eyevan to a fascinating read from London-based Monocle and the soft alpaca wool knitwear from Danish design experts Sunflower. I’d also like to mention the incredible bomber jacket from Italian legend Giorgio Armani. Just in case Santa happens to be reading this.

This Christmas, I’d really like things for the home. It’s important for me to keep my home feeling relaxed and cosy, and the perfect recipe for this, in my opinion at least, is soft and sumptuous fabrics, soft lighting, and scented candles that fill a room with both warmth and olfactory delight. One other thing on my list this Christmas is a board game that I can enjoy with family and friends.

It might sound a bit cliché, but after the cancelled dinners, online-only Lucia celebrations (a Swedish festival celebrated on 13^th December – ed.), and bare-bones festivities of last year, I can honestly say that I’ve never looked forward to getting together with my family for a big Christmas dinner as much as I have this year. When it comes to my Christmas list, wool is something of a central theme – a couple of heavy-knit jumpers or cardigans wouldn’t go amiss when the winter chill begins to bite. In addition, a throw from Missoni Home would look just as good elegantly slung over my sofa as it would around my half-frozen legs. A new beanie and a pair of warm knitted gloves from Le Bonnet are pretty high on my list too.

After an almost bizarrely long stint of working from home, I’ve started to realise the value of elegant loungewear, and since I’d never be caught in a pair of grey sweatpants, my list is topped by proper, high-quality flannel pyjamas, together with a dressing gown, or more of a house coat really, that I can wear over pretty much anything, any time of day. To complete the experience, I’ll of course be surrounded by the sophisticated notes of an exquisitely scented candle. And with the right pen in hand, I’ll be making my grand plans in a notebook worthy of such a task.

For me, Christmas is a mix of family, cocktails, and dozing off in front of a classic festive film. Even if presents are no longer the high point of the day, I still look forward to both giving and receiving them. This year, a dark grey cashmere jumper from Ermenegildo Zegna and a book about architecture are at the top of my list, closely followed by frames for the family photos, a John Derian jigsaw, and a cocktail shaker.
