Linen is natural fibre that is extracted from the flax plant. Like cotton, linen has good moisture absorption and is a material that easily wrinkles and feels cool against the skin, and is therefore often used in classic summer garments such as trousers and shirts.

Prepare the garment by opening the buttons, especially if it is a linen shirt you are going to wash, and closing the zippers, press studs and any Velcro straps.

Remember to wash the linen garments with similar colours as there is a risk of wet precipitation.

Choose a short wash program and avoid spinning. When washing at higher temperatures, linen garments risk shrinking and losing colour. The heat also causes the adhesive pectin that the flax fibres hold to naturally dissolve and the shine in the garment disappears. Therefore, do not wash your linen garments at temperatures higher than 40 degrees in a half-full machine.

Preferably use a liquid detergent, adapted to the colour of the laundry.

Do not tumble dry the garment, but instead shake with water out and hang it evenly after washing. By doing this, you can avoid some ironing, which if necessary takes place at a low temperature or by steaming.

A few last things to think about before you move on and immerse yourself even more in the wonderful world of linen garments.

• Avoid matching different types of linen garments together. It looks slightly over-matched, unless it's a suit made to be worn together.
• Linen garments wrinkle easily. That's how they are, so do not wear yourself out at the ironing board to get the shirt smooth, but instead enjoy the beautiful folds on it or choose a shirt made from a different material if you need a smooth and freshly ironed shirt.
• As with many other white garments, it is also a clearly see-through garment, when it is a white linen garment. Be observant of this when choosing what to wear under them or if you have a lot of body hair.
• Linen garments are perfect during the summer, but it can also look very good in the right fabric mixes and well-chosen types of garments during other seasons. Just try to avoid going to the office in the winter in the linen shirt from the summer, as it easily looks as if you are coming straight from a holiday in the Mediterranean.
