Back in 1919, three members of the Feinbloom family came together to realise their shared vision of creating a new and exciting enterprise in their hometown of Rochester, New York. The result was Champion, a brand that, as of today, has been clothing many of the world’s foremost athletes for over a century. From the beginning, the brand has had a strong connection to the sporting world, not just through its performance sportswear and American college-casual apparel, but also through a number of high-profile sponsorships.
In 1934, Champion joined forces with Moe’s Sport Shop, introducing college-casual styles in the form of sweatshirts and t-shirts. This range included the very first hooded sweatshirt, or hoodie as it is most commonly known today. This now iconic garment was originally developed for practical reasons, able to be worn during warm-ups and training sessions, as well as while waiting on the side-lines.
