The history of both the brand and its most emblematic product began in 1823, when Scotsman Charles Macintosh discovered a method of making waterproof coats using rubberised cotton. The resulting Mac raincoat became so popular that its name is still used to refer to a whole category of outerwear. Today, the brand continues to make its iconic raincoat entirely by hand using rubberised cotton and glued seams to ensure the very highest levels of waterproofing.
